RAIL: Water Quality Report
Water Quality Index Scores: aquatic macroinvertebrates have been identified as organisms useful to biological monitoring for their measurable and variable susceptibility to in-stream disturbance. This report employs macroinvertebrates as biological monitoring indicators used to calculate the Hilsenhoff Biotic Index (HBI). HBI is a metric developed to measure organic pollution in streams by estimates the overall tolerance of the community in a sampled area, weighted by the relative abundance of each taxonomic group (family, genus, etc.).
